How to overcome the anxiety that comes along with achieving success
Have you ever been afraid to take action on something that you know will benefit your business?
Maybe you know that hiring a small team is what you need to get your digital course launched — but every time you go to write a job description, you get a funny feeling in the pit of your stomach.
Or maybe you know that starting a podcast will grow your audience, but every time you sit down to draft your first episode, you end up talking yourself out of it.
Believe me, there have been plenty of times where I’ve been afraid to do something in my business, even though I knew it would bring me that much closer to achieving my goals.
It’s quite the conundrum, wouldn’t you say?
But here’s the thing. Even though being afraid of success (and alllll that it brings) is a totally normal (and human!) reaction, it can really hold you back if you let it.
That’s why it’s important to pay attention to any behavioral patterns that pop up when you find yourself hesitating to take action on something you know will bring you closer to your goals.
And that’s what this episode is all about. In it, you’ll hear:
- What I do when my own fear of success starts to creep in
- Specific patterns to pay attention to that can hold you back
- How to give yourself compassion and shift your perspective
- Ways you can use your fear to your advantage
I hope that the next time you find yourself afraid of achieving success, you come back to this — and remember that you’re not alone in feeling this way!
Here’s a glance at this episode…
- [04:15] The fear of success is part of the human experience. We find comfort in what feels normal to us.
- [05:42] Fear can show up in many different ways, and many of them are subconscious.
- [07:17] The fear of the unknown can keep you stuck.
- [10:14] Society tells us that we should be chasing our success, not fearing it, but that doesn't make it easy.
- [12:20] If you're afraid of success, don't feel ashamed of your fear. When it shows up, give yourself some compassion.
- [12:51] While fear isn't a bad thing, it's important to pay attention to the behaviors that come with it. Shift your perspective and try to see it as exciting.
- [14:53] After you've identified what you've been avoiding, share it with me on Instagram @AmyPorterfield and share it with a friend, coach, or mentor.
