Listen on…
The transparent conversation I had with my team after 3 team members quit back-to-back
This past year, in a very short period of time, I lost three people on my marketing team.
Now, I’ve been a business owner for a while now – and this isn’t the first time that I’ve had employees quit.
And even though I know that this is simply a part of the game, this particular experience really tested me as an entrepreneur.
Because I lost so many people back-to-back, all of my biggest fears all came to the surface. I was deeply afraid that the rest of my team would lose morale and their faith in my business… and as a result, completely unravel.
My negative thoughts took me to a really dark place. But after allowing myself the time and space ‘go there’ — and then talking to my coach and journaling about it – I realized something incredibly important:
This challenge was an opportunity for me to step up as a leader.
I needed to be completely transparent and give them an understanding as to why this happened. I also had to realize that it’s their personal decision to leave my company. And guess what? It’s 100% ok if they do.
It was an eye-opening experience, to say the least. But I’m so glad that it happened, because I know that it will only make me a better leader in the long run.
In this incredibly vulnerable episode, I let you in on everything that happened, the difficult conversation I had with my team, and how my business is even stronger as a result of this experience.
Here’s a glance at this episode…

- [08:37] At our retreat, I addressed the situation and reminded everyone that they can see this as a challenge or an opportunity.
- [11:00] As a leader, I had to let go of what they might be thinking. I'm not responsible for their emotions and thoughts, they are.
