As tempting as it is to hand-hold, it’s important to set boundaries when it comes to support
I’m sure you’ve heard the proverb “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime.”
In a nutshell: It’s better to teach people how to do something rather than to just do it for them, or hold their hand every step of the way.
And when it comes to students in your digital course who need some extra support, I’m 100% in agreement with this age-old advice.
In my experience, when a student is struggling with something, empowering them to learn — as opposed to holding their hand — benefits them more in the long run.
Now, this does not mean that I don’t support my students when they need help. In fact, I have soooo many resources available to them on their journey (which you’ll hear more about in this episode).
But here’s the thing. The level of support I provide is clearly defined when my students join the program, so there isn’t any confusion as they go through it. Not to mention, it helps my community managers out to have a solid boundary in place.
In this episode, I dive into how I’ve approached providing support for students enrolled in my courses, and how I’ve empowered them to build self-trust throughout their journeys. You’ll learn:
- How I support my students through my courses
- The exact resources I make available to my students
- Where I draw the line in between support and hand-holding
- What I tell my students to shift their mindset when they’re struggling
This is a great episode to listen to if you currently have a digital course, or plan to have one in the future. So buckle up and get ready to take some notes!
